Twenty-nine years ago, I brought my child into this world. I still vividly recall the moment, nine months before their birth, when we discovered we were expecting. My ex-husband’s hazel-green eyes lit up with such joy that no words were needed—I understood everything in that silent, shared happiness. We spent 20 years together navigating life’s highs and lows, and though the last year and a half had been the darkest chapter, a part of me feels at peace knowing they are no longer struggling alongside life’s challenges. Yet, my heart broke in ways that can never truly heal, and their absence changed my world forever.It was always the three of us against the world, but this time of year is especially hard. For 29 years, even after our divorce, we continued coming together as a family during the holidays. My daughter adored this season—her birthday, Thanksgiving, and Christmas were her most cherished times of the year. I remember how she loved the decorations, the glowing Christmas lights, the family meals, and the gatherings that brought both sets of grandparents together under one roof. Moving forward without her has been the most difficult journey I have ever faced, but I know I must keep going because I am still here.To my beloved child, happiest birthday in heaven.
